There's more to a healthy community than treating illness. To be among the
healthiest communities in the country, a good measure of the effort must be
in prevention.
For years, Memorial has been recognized as much for our work in creating health
as for our excellent clinical services. As one of the country's first hospitals
to establish a tithing policy, Memorial funds several innovative and
collaborative programs, some of which have served as national models for health
outreach and
preventive care.
Memorial's tithing program is above and beyond the traditional charity care
provided for patients
who cannot
afford
health
services. Each year, a portion of our excess revenues are set aside to help
local organizations develop innovative programs that address a vast range
of
risks
to community health. Whether the issue is teen pregnancy, access to appropriate
health services, early prenatal care or one of many other challenges, we are
proud to help
our community meet them, defeat them, and grow into the healthiest community
in the nation.
